Honoring the legacy of Sanford Jones

Honoring the legacy of Sanford Jones

Students, teachers, families, and friends of Charles Ellis Montessori Academy gathered on January 20, 2026, to celebrate the dedication of a portrait honoring the legacy of Sanford Jones, a pivotal figure in the school’s history.

Sanford Jones served as the first Montessori trainer at Charles Ellis Montessori Academy from 1988 to 1998, helping to shape the school’s early years and establish a strong foundation in Montessori philosophy and practice. His influence continues to be felt throughout the community through the educators he mentored and the enduring culture of creativity and respect for the child that he championed.

In addition to his work as a Montessori trainer, Jones was a gifted artist and storyteller. He wrote and directed a number of original children’s operas that were performed by Charles Ellis students, blending music, drama, and education in ways that left a lasting impression on generations of children and families.

The newly dedicated portrait was created by Elizabeth Bronson and serves as a meaningful tribute to his contributions to the school and the arts. The portrait will be displayed at Charles Ellis Montessori Academy as a lasting reminder of Jones’s vision, creativity, and dedication to children.
